40815 Birthday Party Cake

My seven-year-old had this done in about an hour, and the opening cake design is so clever it actually got a gasp when the hidden compartment was revealed. The pieces held together tight enough for her to carry it around the room to show everyone.

The secret compartment in the middle is such a clever touch—my 8-year-old loaded it with tiny figures and was thrilled when the cake "cracked open" to reveal them. Build was straightforward enough for her to follow along with minimal help.

The hinges on the opening cake design are surprisingly smooth for a kids' set, and the hidden compartment is a clever touch that kept my daughter guessing. She's already rebuilt it twice, so it's holding up great.
